Fiona 9th February 2018

My darling Nigel, on this, the day of your funeral, my heart is full of grief. But we, your family and friends, will be there to celebrate your life and the many ways in which you were special to each of us. And so very special to me. I have loved you since I first knew you: from our happy days at university, to the greater joy of finding each other again after so many years and realising that we wanted to build a life together, to the last days of your life which you faced with your usual courage and concern for others. You made me laugh, you made me cry, you made me feel more fully myself. Above all, you made me feel loved. Thank you for the million little ways in which you showed that love. I know that, in some way, you will always be with me. In the words of your beloved Thomas Hardy, which you quoted to me so often: ‘Whenever you look up, there I shall be – and whenever I look up, there will be you.’
